IBM has been pushing lot of practicality to the industry sloganeering on cloud computing. While many use this term for marketing the same old stuff, IBM shows via example how to get benefit by using cloud technology. Here is a link (an interview) that drives home this point.
IBM uses “smart commerce” to show how to do proper analytics to provide real-time information for better efficiency and profitability while lowering the cost. It has been acquiring companies towards this goal. Last August IBM acquired two companies, Coremetrics and Unica. Coremetrics, for example, provides web analytics for online marketing promotion. IBM also acquired a company called Sterling Commerce that provides complete visibility to inventory in the supply chain, thus eliminating stock-out situations.
The interview describes various practical deployment at companies for smart commerce, adding credibility to these solutions. These acquisitions seem to add great value to IBM’s solutions. Remember, IBM puts “analytics” as one of the strategic focus areas for future.
